Really need to get back to Blogging

I haven't been on here in forever but have decided to try to make a real effort at blogging again. my new Cricut machine is due to arrive tomorrow and I am so excited . I have waited for so long to get one. I have looked at every youtube and learned everything I can so I will be ready to get started as soon as I can.

well tonight I am creating a big pot of my new soup for dinner. it is sooooo goood. I don't have a name for my new soup yet but here is the recipe if your interested.

1 qt canned tomatoes

1 qt chicken broth

2 Tablespoons chicken soup base

1 qt hot water

4 carrots peeled and cut up

1/2 head of cabbage sliced up thin

1 small onion diced

2 cloves of garlic

1/2 bag of spinach

I shake in a little sea salt and parsley to taste

this cooks on the stove or in a crock pot on low for several hours

then I add 1 roll Hillshire farms smoked sausage cut up in small pieces and cook at least another hour. tastes even better the next day. freezes very well.

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to share this beautiful picture my daughter made for me. she is just so good at collage art. I wish so bad I had her talent when it comes to matching all sorts of things to create a beautiful work of art. I just loved it. anyway

today is another sunny warm day here in Tennessee. thank heavens , because I'm already tired of winter. I'm so looking forward to spring. I'm ready to get my gardens going again. I miss my flowers.

Today I have been searching the web for beautiful shabby chic rooms. when Cindy and Donald get moved out Bill and I are going to start work on this old house. From day one of moving in here 2 years ago we have always had someone else living with us. so this will be the first time we have had the chance to start renovating. I'm getting excited. new paint, new fabrics, and lots of creativity seeing as we don't have a lot of money . that's ok we have always been able to come up with really cool ideas on a very low budget so this should be loads of fun. I will keep you updated on the progress.

well I have come to the conclusion that God really does love me. LOL (I already really knew this but) my daughter, hubby and 4 children already live with my husband and I and today she invited my son and his 2 kids to come over .she was going to babysit his kids at my house ALL day. NO,NO, NO. I love them all so much but 6 kids in one house all day is just not my idea of a relaxing Sunday afternoon. anyway my son get called away and couldn't come. whew!!! what a relief!so now I can finish a few other things that need done so bad .

anyway I have found kind of a cool place online. it is shophomade. a place where you can post your handmade stuff for sale and there is no fee. so this card is up there for sale at the moment. I have no idea how much traffic this site gets or how many things sell on there but I am going to try it for a little while anyways. Heck whats there to loose for free.

Hi everyone, I just thought I would post another card I made this week. This one was made out of lightweight chipboard so that it stands up. it was made as an encouragement/ thanks card for a friend who helped out our family with some food this week. My husband has now been unemployed since just before Thanksgiving. But honestly the hardest part is just not being able to go buy all the new scrapping stuff. Its killing me!!!! I want so bad to go buy those copic markers and more paper of course! LOL like I dont have enough to last the next 10 years! It wont hurt one bit to use up some of the stuff I have already. Then when he does go back to work I might have some room to buy some new stuff.

actually my daughter and her husband have finally found a house and will be moving out sometime in Feb. That will be so nice. I might actually be able to move my scrap stuff back into the spare bedroom instead of taking up my entire living room.

Boy has it been a long time since I got on here and updated anything. well there has been so much going on I cant even tell you. Most of all I guess I need to tell everyone that Simple Treasures has closed. I am so sad about this but the store just could not make it in this economic nightmare.I am not going to try to play catch up however I will show you some art my daughter and I have been working on. she has made this wonderful ATC for me yesterday. it is her very first.

Her second one is equally as beautiful. I cant wait to share more of them with you. I think she is finding something hidden way down inside her that has never been come out before.

Over the holidays, I came up with a plan to scrap my granddaughter a recipe album of all of our favorite dishes. I had my grandson take the photos of us cooking together in the kitchen and now I am working on an album that I hope someday she will really cherish. I am including even the most simple recipes like mashed potatoes. Have you ever noticed that people make mashed potatoes different? Here is one of the many cute photos that he took of us in the kitchen.

I am having such a hard time selling this one because its just so cute. It does have a snap closure at the top and an inside pocket. It measures approx 16x9 and is totally washable.

Handmade kitchen towels

These are just the best in hand towels for the kitchen. I love mine. They hang from your stove handle and are made from heavy terry cloth and cotton fabric so they are very washable. Hi everyone! Well I just wanted to share with you another Halloween page I did the other night. This was a very fun page to do because the title block was made a few days ago and all I had to do was add it to a page and voila I had a great page. making the 6x6 title block was easy to do . I started with heavy cardstock and sewed a piece of printed paper 1/4 smaller to it. then just started layering the pieces. the cat is made just like a tear bear but its a tear cat. the fence was pop dotted so its 3D. The title and poem were made and stitched separate then glued in place. then i just added a few smaller embellishments like the bat and pumpkins and felt flower and leaves that I inked with ranger distress inks. anyway have fun creating little 6x6 title blocks then see how fast your pages go. they make really cool Eye candy for a page.

Something new to try

I hope that you can see the picture well enough to understand what I'm writing about. This is a new technique that I tryed and had a great time with it. On this page I have used the negative of a punched image on the page. I first punched the snowflakes out of the edge of the white cardstock. then backed the white with the blue car dstock. then using another smaller snowflake punch I made tiny white snowflakes to fit into the middle of each of the blue snowflakes. I also used pop dots to create a 3D effect in the tiny snowflakes. But then I decided to try something else. I had a bottle of craft twinkles glitter paint. I painted the blue cardstock under the cut out snowflakes and painted the tiny white snowflakes with the glitter paint. It added a whole new beautiful texture to this page. I also have used all the punched out snowflakes elsewhere on the page and painted them with the same glitter paint. This page has turned out very shinny and pretty. I hope you will find many new uses for your punches including using the negative.Have a great day scrapping. I'll be back soon with more ideas.

my grandparents wedding

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to post a picture of a page I just finished. these are real photo of my grandparents wedding. they were married in 1929 in a double wedding. kind of neat hu? anyway. to create this page I first made copies of the original photos. (I think you should always do that if there irreplaceable photos) The large picture on page one is 8x10. this was just to cool to have anything smaller. I love all the detail in there wedding dresses and hair pieces and wanted it to show. On all the photo mats and journaling blocks I used ranger inks(vintage photo) to age the paper. It really gives a wonderful old effect. I have used rub ons in 2 places on this layout. I was going to rubber stamp but Kodak's new waterproof paper is a handful when it comes to stamping. I have used flowers by spare parts and some really pretty old looking brads by spare parts also. I think it turned out pretty good. well that's it for today. gotta go.

Inspiration can come from anywhere

Happy Fall Y'all!! well the reason I am putting this page up today is because I just couldn't find anything fun to scrap yesterday. I went into the kitchen to pour a glass of cold water to drink when low and behold this little scarecrow refrigerator magnet(that my mom made for me a few years ago) was looking at me from the front of the fridge. I thought as I looked at it that I could somehow create a page with the little guy.

I took him with me to the scrap studio and started playing.and ended up with this page.

I traced out his head, hat and arms all separate and paper pieced them together with raffia under his hat and at the ends of his arms.

I look for inspiration everywhere. Its not an easy job to come up with a new page everyday.I will add here the second page of this layout as it has more of the little scarecrow guys. I also found a cute little poem on the Internet about scarecrows to use.

A quick note about using poems from the Internet. this one did not have an author listed, but if you use a poem on your pages that has an author I advise that you sign the authors name to it. there are copyright laws on using stuff like that and you really don't want to make someone angry over a scrapbook page. besides someone 40 years from now might see your page and want to learn more about that author or poem . so always remember to sign the poems or saying you put on your pages.

I have decided this morning to attempt to create my own blog to show some of my scrapbook pages and tell a bit about them. Hopefully , I will be able to learn more about scrapping from all the comments you send to me and maybe be able to teach some scrappers who are just starting some of the tricks I have learned in the past. I just finished this layout a few days ago. I had a wonderful time with this one. (I guess that's why I'm putting it first here) I do sell my work on ebay and on etsy. my ebay name is wb225222. so please feel free to come visit me there and see what other layouts I have on there.

This is Home for the Holidays page 1

I first hand cut my letters. I do not have one of those fancy machines such as a wishblade to do my cutting for me so it is all done by hand. for some beginners reading this , the trick is to lay out your chipboard letters upside down on the back side of your paper(I always use Bazzill cardstock) then trace them out lightly with a pencil.

hand cutting requires that you have a very sharp tiny scissors so that you can cut right up into the tiny corners. The next step for the letters was to heat emboss them. I use a clear embossing stamp pad and just pounced the top of each letter individually into the embossing ink. then sprinkled on the embossing powder. remember to blow off the excess powder. then using the heat tool melt the embossing powder onto the letter. Next you want to ink the edges of your letters so that they will POP from the page. I use Ranger distress inks for all my distress inking. I also love the little finger daubers to apply the ink around the edges of my letters.Don't apply ink to the embossed edge only the bare edges of the letters.

I also cut out the photo mats, punched the corners and used the same ranger ink around the edges of the printed paper on the mats. I used punches for the snowflakes and embossed them also.

The little snowmen... well my favorite site to find clip art is pc crafter they have some awesome ,cute stuff there. I always print 2 of whatever picture I want . hand cut the first one out then only cut out the parts that you want to use for the 3D effect out of the second print. I use tiny POP dots for this. I always like to use the ranger inks of the edges of my cut clip art when I'm finished with it too. this just gives it a more finished look.

My next step is to sew all the photo mats on my sewing machine. sewing on paper is actually easier than sewing on fabric. paper does not stretch and move around. I use a very little acid free glue in the middle of my 2 mats to hold them in place while I sew around the edges.(you do not want the glue at the edges of the paper, if it gets onto your sewing machine needle you have a mess) I choose to use a decorative stitch but any zig zag stitch or even a straight stitch will work nicely. after they are all sewn. then it is time to start gluing them in place on your background.

I would like to talk just a little about backgrounds here. once you place your photos on the mats , keep it in mind that your matte printed paper is covered up by the photo. I like to use some printed papers on the background page somehow also . this makes for a much prettier page once the photos are on.

I guess I have failed to talk about cutting the photo mats. I usually try to cut most of my photo mats to fit approximately a 4x6 photo so my first Bazzill cardstock is cut at 6 1/2 x 4 /1/2.

the second printed paper is cut at 6 1/4 x 4 1/4. This is a perfect fit then for a 4x6 photo after the sewing is finished. now, because you can only fit a few whole 4x6 photos on a page and some people like to cut there photos I always include a few smaller photo mats on the page. this also allows me not to waste a lot of paper.

This is the second page of this layout. always remember that a scrapbook is to keep the memories of the day or moment. so always include some sort of tags or journaling blocks somewhere on your page so that they can be recorded. you will notice here the small hang tags that I have put on this page. they are held in place with a pretty blue jean brad. I also always make sure that the brad goes through the edge of photo mat but never in the way of the photo.

I always like to attach ribbons they really make for a finished look to a page. but here again make sure that when attaching your ribbon that it is out of the way of the photo.

Poems or sayings are always nice on a page. This one was a vellum saying. I just printed it out on my computer and cut to fit a photo mat. and sewed in place. I do not like the vellum glue (I think it still shows through) so I only sew vellum around the edges or use brads to hold in place. I always try to think about the person who might be buying this page.Maybe they wont like the same sayings that I do so I make them to where they could use this as another photo mat and cover up the saying. also I would like to point out that when attaching snowflakes or anything that is around the edges of a photo mat make sure they are not glued over a mat but are loose on the edge that hangs over a mat, this way a photo will slide right under them.sometimes I use pop dots to create this.

Well I have talked a lot today on how I created this page. I am up for all suggestions at anytime to help with my scrapping. and I hope that I have been of some help to some of you that have not done a lot of scrapping yet to learn some new techniques that you didn't know how to do.
